Civic engagement, critical literacy, and empathy for multiple viewpoints are essential skills for all community members, even our youngest learners. Multiple studies show that social studies instruction and inquiry are among the most effective methods for introducing these concepts to all students. Despite this compelling evidence, dedicated time for social studies continues to be cut in K-5 classrooms. In this workshop, elementary educators will learn creative and engaging strategies to incorporate social studies and civics-related content throughout the school day. No advanced degree in history or political science is required
